There have of late been an error circulating that the Book of Acts is not a credible source for doctrine because it is a historical narrative, and that only the Gospels and Epistles may be used to establish doctrine.

We are living in a time when the teaching of Doctrine is becoming less a priority/ As churches strive for cultural relevence in a world where convenience is everything and self esteem is the message dejour doctrine is finding itself cast onto the back burner, or removed from the stove completely.

Matthew 14:22-31

When we think about Peter walking on water with Jesus, we usually think what could have happen if Peter did not take his eyes off of Jesus. As long Peter kept his eyes on Jesus, he was able to walk on water. But when he began to put his focus on the big waves that the sea storm was making while he was walking on water, he became afraid. Oh boy, another round of ghouls, goblins, devils and witches. And that is just the kid's . . .

Every year All Hallows Eve, Samhain, Helloween, whatever we want to call it comes-a-knock, knock-a-knocking on our door dressed as anything from Batman to the Ghost of Christmas past. Where does this day fit into the Biblical Perspective? How do we treat it? Is it "harmless fun"? Or is there something about the practices and traditions that we should beware of?

Now, this little perspective won't go into the history of how the day came to be and what the deep meaning of every Jack of the Lantern and symbol means. That area has been well traveled and I don't want to walk there today with you. But rather I would prefer to consider the contemporary trappings and have you, the gentle reader, ask yourself: "Should I or my family participate in the activities of this day, in any measure?"
