About Pocket IBS

Introduction · Enter Pocket IBS · View Pocket IBS Offline

Pocket IBS is the latest addition to the Institute for Biblical Studies web site. It is a "pocket" version of the web site, optimized for the Pocket PC. Presently it has all of the articles listed on the "Recent Additions" section of our main site, with all of the formatting and images optimized for a 240x320 screen and a low bandwidth connection. This has not yet been tested with other handheld devices, such as cell phones or the Palm Pilot, but we would be eager to hear any reports of how it looks on other devices. We would also be interested to learn how much interest there actually is for this project to help us determine how to proceed with it. So if you are benefiting from this ministry, or have any comments or suggestions, please let us know. You can e-mail IBSAdmin@gmail.com (our email was down for a few days, but it's up again). Also, please understand that it will not display correctly on a full size screen (but you're welcome to have a look anyway if you like ;o). You could resize the window until the multiple side bars disappear and make the height about 1.5 times the width to get a rough idea of how it looks on the Pocket PC.

To Save Pocket IBS For Offline Viewing

For the Pocket PC 2002:

1. In Internet Explorer, go to www.PocketIBS.com or simply click on the link above. This will forward you to http://www.apostolic.net/biblicalstudies/mobile/.

2. Click the "Favorites" button (It should have a star next to it), or go to: View/Explorer Bar/Favorites. There should be a folder there that says "Mobile Favorites." If it is not there, open up Microsoft Active Sync and go to: Tools/Options/Sync Options, and make sure that "Favorites" is checked.

3. Drag the Internet Explorer icon in the address bar (the blue "e" next to where it says Address) to the "Mobile Favorites" folder. It should say "Institute for Biblical Studies - Mobile Edition (PocketIBS.com)." You can rename this simply "Pocket IBS" if you like.

4. Right click on this shortcut and choose "Properties" (simply choosing "Make available offline" does not give you as many options).

5. On the "Web Document" tab check the box that says "Make this page available offline. Two new tabs will appear.

6. Select the tab that says "Download" and set "Download pages . . ." to 1 (otherwise all you will get is the home page).

7. Uncheck the box that says "Follow links outside of this page's Web site." This uses unnecessary space on your mobile device.

8. Presently, the entire pocket site is only 80 kilobytes. But if we decide to include more than just the recent additions in the future and you only want the more recent articles you may want to check the next box and set it accordingly. If you want Windows to send you this page by email when the site is updated, check the last box and fill in your email address and mail server (if you are unsure what your mail server is, try typing in everything after the @ symbol in your email address).

If you do not get the same options as I have here, you may need to download the latest version of Active Sync or Internet Explorer.

9. To view Pocket IBS on your Pocket PC: open Internet Explorer, click the Favorites folder at the bottom of the screen and choose Pocket IBS (or whatever name you gave it).
